Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hunting has never been this cool! MH4U is probably amongst my favorite 3DS games to date. It's way more accessible to new players of the series and is definitely worth the buy. There are tons of super cool monsters to stab at, skin, and proceed to wear said skin as a hat, which makes this game incredibly fun. The amount of customization in terms of gear is practically near limitless with tons of armor sets and weapons to choose from. There's tons of free DLC in this game as well giving unique and interesting armor sets and weapons for both you and your cat companion, the Palicoe. Online play is also extremely fun, as what's more exciting that killing a huge dragon? Killing it with friends! I've noticed a small amount of lag, but nothing major or game-breaking. The graphics aren't the greatest, especially when compared to MH3U, but it doesn't detract from the beauty of each landscape or the fun that is to be had in this game. Ultimately, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is fun as heck and worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't hate me, PLEASE! This game is one of the most beautiful games on the 3ds. It's graphics are beyond any other game I have seen. The monsters are creative and look amazing. Weapon and armor crafting has never been so cool. You can create your own character and what other game lets you create a cat? All of these things make the game "Good". I consider myself between casual and hardcore. I'm not terrible, but I spend a lot of time playing. When I got the game, I was excited. I hadn't played a MH game in my life. I put the game into my New 3ds and had fun! Gathering and hunting was awesome... until the first boss, "The one that you get from the lady". This was so infuriating, I kept running away and I didn't know where it was! I then died. You wait a while before getting back in action. The worst part of this was, it was his dumb poses that killed me. If you don't know this, he poses every time you use an item. This brings me to the controls. They suck so bad. The D-pad is your camera if you don't have a New 3ds. This means you have to stop moving to move the camera. Nobody wants to wait in games! Another thing they don't want to do is read for the first hour of the game. You would need to have that if you didn't have a plentiful amount of menus and simple controls. If fact, you could cut it in half if you stopped thinking we were idiots. Most of it was self-explanatory. All of this adds up to a "Good game" and not a "Great game".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great game for hunters If you are looking for a game that is never the same, this is the game to get. The graphics are good and the gameplay is great. The missions are never the same because one thing can make or break the mission outcome. The online play is fun its safe and everyone I've played with has been friendly. I definitely recommend this game to gamers looking for a challenge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from over 600 hours in, still more content to explore! I was new to the series in 3u but i only got like 200 hours in because it got too hard. This is not a casual game. At all. But if you wanna have fun with friends, grab some pizza for between your epic hunts, hang out over local play or online play... this is fdefinately the best multiplayer gome, if not the best game period, on the console.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Monsterous Rip-Off First let me say this. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is not a horrible game. It really isn't. I put in 60+ hours into the game over 2 separate game files. My biggest issue is the lasting appeal and how much knowledge of the previous games you have to know to get good at it, along with some weapon classes being MUCH better than others. I bought MH4U and right away put 15+ hours into it with the beginning being fresh and exciting. Soon after that I started getting bored with the game. I found myself picking it up less and less and only playing it when my friends wanted to. At this point I realized how bad i was and how little I knew about the game and the series despite the "tutorial" (if you can even call it that). Eventually I started playing more and more of it and I started a 2nd game file were I took the game more seriously. I got really into it once again. I got pretty far in the game and almost beat the story when I started to notice I hadn't changed my weapon lately. I decided to get a new weapon, so I began to farm monsters. Fighting a monster can take anywhere from 5 to 50 minutes and with a 5% carve rate on the monster, I was not getting what I needed. I spent 12 hours making a sword and no success. The game gets so repetitive. Only reason I still occasionally play it is because of friends. So in short, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from addiction you don't want to get rid of Very intense game. The amount of different weapons, armors, buffs, and uses of items makes for a game for all styles. complete with a challenging storyline, and online game play for all, this game has many things you can do, with an almost never-ending list of things to do if bored of one thing or another. Helpful online gamers can help you with advice and challenges, and you will not find yourself bored for a LONG time after playing past the first few quests. I would highly suggest this game for anyone that plays games, long or short term.
