Rated 1 out of 5 by from Indie Sidescroller "RPG" Disaster I bought this hoping for a decent RPG experience on the Switch. What I got instead was a garbage indie title side scrolling title similar to plants vs zombies. Game play is stale and boring. There are no real RPG elements. Graphics are worse than the original Wii and the sound is generic and bland. This should be a $5 indie title, and would be better suited for play on a mobile device. Don't waste your money. If you want a good RPG experience download I Am Setsuna instead. If you are looking for a mindless mobile game get a cheaper one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could-Be-Better Heroes I've played Has-Been Heroes for a grand total of 13 hours. For the time that I have played it, here are just a few tidbits of information that I didn't know coming into this game... 1. Has Been Heroes is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT! You will die and die a lot in this game. Any progress you have made across the locales, rather it's spells/items/keys/candles will get reset back to nothing. The tutorial is brief and there is NO in-game manual or support. I found myself doing research online to get a better idea of what I should be doing. 2. It will take several plays to "get it". Stamina is a huge factor in how you win in this game. Stunning enemies and breaking down their shields is key. I didn't really realize this until a few hours into the game and consistent dying. 3. The Bosses in this game can be ridiculously hard to the point that winning might just be sheer luck. Especially later bosses like the Fire Skeleton-- I find it interesting that more developers are trying to come out with Rogue-like games, and while Has-Been Heroes has a solid system - it is hampered down by an insane difficulty. Some Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Make the game easier for beginners - some people don't want to put in the 15 hours of play time to "get it". Make the game more rewarding early on and challenging later. 2. Include an in-game digital manual (as an update) for players to look up and read. Allow the player to consult this digital manual as a companion to the game and include tips. 3. Make the Bosses easier. They are brutal. I have never wanted to throw my Switch out the window before I played this game. I mean come on. I spend 1-2 hours going through worlds only to die at a Fire Boss and lose everything and all my progress?! 4. Put in a Setting for players to get a "1-Up", allowing them to retry a Boss or battle if they fail. -- Overall, Has-Been Heroes is an average game, it's just not what I expected. If there is one thing this game does fantastic at, it's the soundtrack. Very memorable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardcore Puzzleish RPG This game is kinda a puzzle game and an RPG at the same time. You have 3 lanes and 3 heroes and baddies come from the right hand side of the screen and you must master the attacks your heroes have to kill all baddies before they kill you. NOW you will fail a lot it takes about dying 10 times to be Able to collect enough items to complete the first 2 bosses. Then you unlock more heroes and keep going over and over again . Its a great time waster and I playing it and trying to unlock all 20+ heroes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this game because I beat Zelda BOTW and needed something to tie me over until Mario kart came out. For this game only being $20 is why I strongly recommend it. The story is very short but the items and characters involved in the game make each playthrough very enjoyable and different. The game was hard to understand because their was no tutorial but once you figure it out it is very addictive and again for $20 its nice.
